Mark Stefanic on the Issues
Public safety is a critical issue in our community. I will advocate for strengthening the city’s ability to provide shorter response times for police, fire, and ambulance services. We need to make sure law enforcement has the resources necessary to protect our entire community. Our quality of life depends on our ability to have confidence in our public safety departments. I also view snow plowing and maintenance of our roads as a public safety issue. I also support more community involvement in helping foster safe neighborhoods.
We need to keep property taxes down. The high property taxes in Rockford are hurting our economic development efforts. I will use my financial management background to examine the city budget from a revenue and spending standpoint.
Being fiscally responsible is a lifelong value to me that has led me to earn a business and accounting degree and MBA along with a career in the private sector managing the finances of large business operations. I will apply my skills and experience to make sure that city finances are managed in a sound and effective manner. Elected officials need to respect the citizens and businesses in our community who pay taxes and deserve the services that those taxes are supposed to pay for.
Economic development is the lifeblood of any community. It is the job of our elected officials to create an environment that attracts and fosters economic growth that lessens the burden on existing taxpayers. There are a number of issues that we need to address in the city of Rockford such as high property taxes and violent crime that impact the ability to attract new businesses and maintain existing businesses.
